Peanutis our favourite nut for sure. Peanuts is an economically wise choice for regular use as a nut. In fact the organic varieties also work out well, for the pocket. Here’s a versatile dip from the humble peanut!

Add the chana daal to get a different flavour.

Ingredients

  • Peanuts: 1 cup
  • Channa Dal: 2-3 tsp
  • Urad Dal (White): 2-3 tsp
  • White seasame seeds: 2-3 tsp
  • Mustard seeds: 2-3 tsp
  • Onion: 1 (chopped)
  • Rock salt as per taste
  • Red Chilli powder (optional)

Method

  • Dry roast peanuts in a pan until it turns light brown and keep aside.
  • In the same pan, dry roast channa dal and mix it with roasted peanuts and keep them aside.
  • Use the same pan and dry roast the urad dal now and mix it with the peanut, channa dal mix.
  • Now use the same pan and roast mustard seeds with few curry leaves and keep this mixture separately.
  • Now roast the chopped onions in the same pan (without oil) and together with the peanut, channa and urad dal mix, blend everything in a mixer.
  • Now mix the mustard seeds with the ground peanut mix paste and cook them in a pan for a few minutes.

  • Yummy oil free peanut chutney is ready to be served with hot idlies.

    Eating guide:

  • Food group: Legume
  • Can be easily combined with other food groups (except fruits)
  • The whole legumes and dals are always a better option than split ones.
