Yam Steaks- Oil-Free

Oil free way to cook yam into a tasty spicy snack. Yam is one of those tricky vegetables that many people avoid. It is said to have medicinal properties and is very versatile. It lends itself to different ways of cooking. Highly nutritious and filling.
Ingredients
- Yam/Suran/Jimikand: 250 gms (cut into ½ cm thick slices)
- Coriander leaves: ¼ cup (chopped)
- Green chili: 2-3 nos
- Garlic: 2 cloves
- Ginger: 1 inch
- Rock Salt: to taste
- Lime: ½ a lime
Method
- Cut the yam into slices as shown in the picture.
- Apply salt on the yam slices and steam them in a steamer until well cooked but not mushy. Poke with a knife to check if cooked.
- Blend the coriander leaves, ginger, garlic, green chilli, salt into a coarse paste.
- Roast the yam slices on a tawa until it browns and gets a little crisp.
- Smear the ground paste on the roasted yam. Roast again if you wish.
- Serve hot with a dash of lime and your favorite chutney.
