This desi thirst-quencher might make you ditch the regular aerated drinks as the mercury sores high this summer. All it takes is putting together some instant ingredients to get a healthy, cooler in a jiffy. Sattu is our traditional instant food, used in a different recipe. Pre-prepare and store the sattu powder to have it handy to refresh your summer afternoons or when you wish to serve a refreshing drink to your guest.
Sattu, from Bihar, is a storehouse of fibre and proteins. It also has a cooling effect on our bodies. Sattu shikanji is a great way to add to the nutrition of sattu to our palate.
Ingredients
- Water: 2 cups
- Sattu powder: 2 tsp
- Date paste: 2-3 tsp
- Black salt: 1 tsp or to taste
- Lemon juice: ¼ cup
- Cumin seeds powder: ½ tsp
- Mint leaves: a few (optional)
- Ice cubes: handful
Method
- In a bowl add water, honey/dates paste, lemon juice, cumin seeds powder and salt.
- Mix well.
- Serve chilled or with ice cubes and mint leaves.
Eating guide:
- Food group: Legumes
- Best time to have: as an evening snack.
- Kala Chana (Black chickpeas) belongs to the legume family.
- These are whole foods and a great addition for much-needed protein and fibre.
- A wonderful substitute for packaged drinks.
