Raw Banana Mash - add variety to your veggies

Oil-free, it’s an easy way to cook vegetables with little or no oil. Steam grate/ mash and temper.
Podimas in Tamil means a mash or a crumble. Many vegetables can be converted into a podimas with minimum ingredients that enhance the natural flavor of the vegetable.
Ingredients
- Raw green Banana: 3 nos
- Coconut: 3 tbsp (grated)
- Lime Juice: 1 tbsp
- Rock Salt: to taste
- Mustard seeds: 1 tsp
- Curry leaves: 1 sprig
- Coriander leaves: 1 tbsp (chopped)
- Split Urad Dal: 1 tsp
- Green chilli: 2-3 (finely chopped)
- Cold pressed coconut oil: 1 tsp (optional)
Method
- Wash and steam the raw bananas with the skin until cooked.
- You can check if done by piercing a sharp knife through them. It would take around 12 minutes.
- Cool and peel the steamed bananas and grate them.
- Make a tempering of coconut oil, mustard seeds, urad dal, green chillies and curry leaves. Skip the oil if you wish to.
- Add the grated banana, grated coconut, lime juice and salt and stir well.
- Garnish with coriander leaves.

- Tastes great eaten with rasam rice or sambar rice.
