Moti Choor Laddoo is a favourite festive delight. Here's a recipe to make this much-loved dessert healthier, without any oil!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chana dal
  • 3/4 cup jaggery powder
  • 2 tbsp coconut butter
  • 1 tsp elaichi powder
  • A pinch of turmeric
  • 3 tbsp raisins and other chopped nuts of choice (almonds/cashews/pistachio)
  • A pinch of rock salt

Method

  • Wash and soak the chana dal for 2 hours
  • Discard the water and rub the dal well with a clean cloth to wipe away moisture
  • Coarsely pulse the dal with the turmeric powder. Be careful not to make a paste
  • Make small balls, flatten them fully and bake them in the oven for 15 mins at 180 C
  • Flip them over and bake for another 10 mins. The 'vadas' should feel a little dry
  • While the vadas are baking, dry roast the nuts and chop them
  • After the vadas are cool, grind them again in a mixie till you get a rough, coarse powder
  • Melt the jaggery with a tbsp of water and allow to thicken a bit
  • Let the syrup cool down till warm
  • Add the chana dal powder, elaichi, chopped nuts and raisins, coconut butter, salt and mix well
  • Shape them into balls of the required size
  • Your laddoos are ready!

(If they are little soft, keep in the fridge to firm up a bit)

Notes: If the laddoos are not binding, add some chana dal powder, mix well and try shaping again

Instead of using the oven, you can also dry roast the powdered chana dal on a low flame to remove the moisture.
