Faalse ka Sherbet - homemade summer cooler!

Faalsa or Phalsa is a summer fruit, available only from April to June. It is a small fruit, looks like Jamun and has high nutritive value. It is a storehouse of vitamins and is known to have a cooling effect. How about putting some in-season phalse into a homemade summer quencher! Here’s a simple recipe to prepare the refreshing and nutritious Faalse ka Sherbet, without any artificial sweeteners!

Ingredients

  • Faalse fruit: 250 gms
  • Honey: 2-3 tsp
  • Roasted cumin seeds powder: 1 tsp
  • Black salt: a pinch(optional)
  • Mint leaves: 1 tsp (chopped, for garnishing)
  • Lemon slice for garnishing
  • Water: 2 glasses

Method

  • Wash the faalse fruit well and then mash with the help of spatula so that the pulp leaves the seeds.
  • Mix faalse with black salt, roasted cumin seeds powder, 2 glasses of water and 2-3 tsp of honey, and put the mixture in a blender and blend well.
  • Strain the juice with a strainer to remove any bumps or leftover seeds.
  • Pour into a serving glass, add ice cubes and garnish with mint leaves and lemon.
       

  • Eating Guide:

  • Food group: Fruits.
  • Best time to eat: mornings as breakfast or first meal. Can be eaten as evening snacks or thirst quencher on a summer afternoon. Do remember to eat alone and not mixed with meals.
  • It is a good idea to consume seasonally available fruits in ample amount. Summer fruits like phalse are designed by nature to work as natural coolants. Fixing the fruit as a sherbet is a great way to up fruits for kids
